Is There Free Junk Removal in Orlando?
Affordable Junk Removal has a straight answer to this one, and it is sometimes yes: inside Orlando city limits, the city picks up two large items for free on yard waste day. Junk removal companies, including us, charge for the crew, the truck and the disposal.
5.0 stars on Google from 400+ reviewsThe free option: Orlando’s large item pickup
If you live inside City of Orlando limits, the city picks up two large items for free on your yard waste day, and you do not need to schedule it. Free items include standard appliances, furniture such as sofas and dressers, and things like toilets and sinks that can be loaded by hand. Items go at the edge of your property, not blocking the street, sidewalk, mailboxes or storm drains. All doors must come off refrigerators and freezers before they go to the curb.
The city also offers dumpster bag pickup for residences within city limits, typically within 3 to 5 working days of a request. Dumpster bags cannot hold food waste, yard waste, or hazardous materials like paint and chemicals.

When the free option works
- You live inside Orlando city limits.
- You have two items or fewer.
- They can be loaded by hand.
- You, or someone you know, can get them to the curb.
- They can wait until yard waste day.
If all five are true, use the city pickup. It is free, and it is the right call.
When it does not
- You are not in city limits. Many Orlando mailing addresses are in unincorporated Orange County, where the rules are different.
- You have more than two items, or a whole room, garage or house.
- It is too heavy to load by hand. The city sends a claw truck for those, and the cost depends on the type and amount of items.
- Nobody can get it to the curb. A sleeper sofa on the third floor or a fridge in the back of the garage has to be carried out first.
- It cannot wait. You are moving out, closing on a sale, or the new couch arrives tomorrow.
- You live in an apartment or condo without curbside service.
What a paid pickup costs
With us, single items start at $25, and bigger loads are priced by how much room they take in our 15-foot truck. The price covers carrying it out from wherever it is, loading, hauling and disposal, and we confirm it before we start. See junk removal prices for the details.
Other free and low-cost options
- Ask the store. Many furniture, mattress and appliance stores take the old one when they deliver the new one. Ask before you buy. See mattress removal and appliance removal.
- Donate it. Furniture in good condition may be accepted by a local charity. Call first, since most have rules about condition.
- Give it away. A free listing online often moves a usable couch or table within a day or two.
Hazardous waste is never curbside
By law, hazardous waste cannot be collected at the curb in Orlando. Paint, chemicals and similar materials go to a free household hazardous waste drop-off at the Orange County Landfill or the Porter Road Transfer Station. Lithium-ion batteries should never go in household garbage or recycling carts. Our truck cannot take hazardous materials either, see what junk removal won’t take.
Outside Orlando
Every city runs bulk pickup differently. Sanford holds a free bulk trash event split by area, Winter Park holds a free annual bulk event for residential customers, DeLand picks up to 3 cubic yards of bulk weekly, and Deltona’s hauler collects bulk once a week. Details are on our Sanford, Winter Park, DeLand and Deltona pages.
